Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia Sunday joined the Ghana Bar Association at the Kaneshie Presbyterian Church to mark the 37th Anniversary Remembrance Service for the three murdered Justices of the High Court of Justice.
The President of the Ghana Bar Association, Anthony Forson stressed the need for a national concensus on security issues and the strengthening of the law enforcement agencies to fight the increasing spate of lawlessness in the country.
The three High Court Judges, Justice Fred Poku Sarkodee, Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addow and Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong together with a retired Army Officer, Major Acquah were abducted at night during the curfew hours of June 30, 1982.
Their brutal murder was announced the following day on the July 1, 1982 sending shocking waves to all.
Every year, this day is marked in memory of the late Justices of the High Court.
The National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Anthony Forson in a brief history of the unfortunate event also touched on some current happenings in the which threaten the peace and security of the country.
He called on all to be vigilant in the wake of armed robbery and kidnappings.
In a sermon, the Moderator of the Presbyterian church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. J. O. Y Mante said it is high time Ghanaians learn to be responsible for their deeds. He bemoaned the morale decadence in the society stressing the need for all to pursue to mental and economic freedom.
The biographies of the late martyrs of the rule of law described them as bold and courageous. Prayers were said for Ghana Bar Association the leadership of the country and Ghanaians as a whole.
In attendance were members of the Ghana Bar Association, the Judiciary and some Members of Parliament.
