Some members of Parliament on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, have kicked against the construction of a new parliamentary chamber.
The leadership of parliament has outdoored plans to construct a new 450 seater chamber. Even though the cost is not known, Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu says it may not cost more than 200 million dollars.
However, MP for Kumbungu Ras Mubarack speaking on the issue said the construction of a new chamber is a misplaced priority and cannot be justified.
MP for Akan, Aziz Miniru also said the plan should be discarded and the funds earmarked for the project sent into other priority areas.
In a separate development, the MP for Builsa South Dr. Clement Apaak has rejected the president’s suggestions that those criticising the new public universities bill are doing so out of mischief.
The President at a graduation ceremony at UPSA indicated that the focus of the Bill is not to stifle academic freedom and that those making the comments are doing so out of mischief.
But Dr. Apaak who once lectured at the University of Ghana says there President does not fully appreciate the concerns being raised
