The Terranga Lions of Senegal have qualified for the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after beating the Squirrels of Benin one-nil. Iddrisu Ogueye got the only goal of the match for the Senegalese in the second half. Liverpool star Sadio Mane scored twice but they were ruled off side.

Oliver Verdon of Benin was sent off for fouling a Senegalese attacker who was in a pole position to score. The resultant free kick went straight into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Allagbe of Benin.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles yesterday secured a place in the semi-finals at AFCON 2019, after defeating South Africa by two goals to one. The match at the Cairo International Stadium got off to a lively start with the two teams searching for an early goal, but could not keep their shots on target in the opening stages of the encounter.

Despite South Africa cancelling a Samuel Chukwueze’s 27th minute goal through a video assistant referee (VAR), William Troost-Ekong capitalised on a goalkeeping error by Ronwen Williams to clinch the winner for the Eagles in the 89th minute.

The Super Eagles will now take on the winner of the Algeria and Cote D’Ivoire match on Sunday. In the quarter final fixtures to be played today, Cote d’Ivoire will take on Algeria at 4pm, while Debutants Madagascar takes on former champions Tunisia at 7 pm.
