Today is World Youth Skills Day. The UN, at its General Assembly on November 2014, declared the Day to generate greater awareness and discussion on the importance of technical, vocational education, and training and the development of other skills relevant to both local and global economies.
The UN hopes World Skills Day will contribute to reducing unemployment and underemployment among the youth across the globe. The day will also highlight youth skills and development to draw attention to the critical need for marketable skills.
Head of the UNESCO-UNEVOC International Centre, Shamal Majumdar says youth employment is a major concern for all over the world, hence, in spite of the challenges, young people in many countries are breaking the ground, creating the milestone and displaying the talent in TVET.
He says there is no inclusive development without Youth Empowerment in skills. On this occasion, the UN representative is appealing to the youth to share their thoughts, organise events, highlight their achievements and voice out their difficulties using the hashtag WYSD.
