UG establishes fund to raise $500m for infrastructural dev’t

The University of Ghana (UG) has announced a number of initiatives intended to cement its status as a leading research institution in the sub region.

The initiatives include the establishment of a fund to raise $500 million for the renovation of laboratories and the construction of a museum.

Speaking at the congregation of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences of the University in Accra, the Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Kwame Offei said the University last year received more than 80 research grants worth over $35 million.

More than 920 students graduated from programmes such as Agribusiness, Animal Science Chemistry, Environmental Science, Physics, Food and soil sciences among others. Prof Kwame Offei said the school would require $500 million to renovate the laboratories whose research will benefit the country.

Vice President of Kosmos Energy Ghana, Joe Mensah advised the graduates to apply emotional intelligence in their career endeavours.

Awards were given to students as well as staff of the College, who excelled in the 2018/19 academic year.
