Psychiatric units in the Upper East Region are in dire need of Psychotropic drugs to improve on the health care needs of psychiatric clients.

For the past five years, the free supply of psychotropic medicines, mental health drugs, by government  has been a challenge, and has led to relapses in some clients, while conditions of others worsened as a result of lack of the drugs.

This came to light at a day’s workshop organised by Basic Needs Ghana in collaboration with its development partners for journalists in the Upper East Region.

It is intended to improve community mental health treatment through increased funding to mental health services.
