Annual Autism and Digital Technology forum opens in Accra

The Executive Director of Tech Era, a digital technology company, Derick Omari has disclosed that projects are ongoing to aid persons with disabilities using technology to increase their job competitiveness.

Speaking at the annual Autism and Digital Technology forum in Accra, Mr. Omari said his team is working with volunteers from tertiary institutions to make the project possible.

Autism is a developmental disorder of variable severity that is characterized by difficulty in social interaction and communication and by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour.

The annual Autism and Digital Technology Event, AutismDTgh, brought together parents, carers, professionals and other stakeholders to research ways in which digital technology impacts autism spectrum disorder and use dialogue to explore how research can improve policy making conditions in Ghana and across Africa.

The Executive Director of Tech Era Derrick Omari shares how digital technology can educate, bridge communication and educational gaps in order to change the narratives in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

A lecturer and a speech and language therapists, Nana Akua also encouraged support systems to be active and urged parents to take up their roles.

This year’s AutismDTgh 2019 is themed ”Awareness and acceptance, Innovative Inclusive Education and Research and policy”.
