Records at the Accident Unit of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital show that more people are having their limbs amputated due to the degree of their injuries. These injuries are mostly caused by Motorbike accidents.
The hospital says more than twenty people have had either one or both legs or arms cut off in the last thirty months.
The hospital also recorded more than two thousand accidents through OKADA.
Executive Director of the National Road Safety Commission, May Obiri Yeboah acknowledged the problem saying the numbers are high because the OKADA riders do not respect road safety regulations.
Though she was not forthcoming with her response on whether or not OKADA should be legalised as a means of transport, Mrs Yeboah believes there must be strict regulations of OKADA riders if legalisation is the way to go.
Meanwhile, OKADA Riders Association does not agree that their riders do not obey road safety rules. Secretary to the Association, Majid Amadu said the Police are to blame for the behaviour of OKADA riders on the road.
