President Akufo-Addo has hinted of a law that will prohibit the export of raw materials from Ghana. Currently there is a ban on the export of raw bauxite for the next five years.
Government wants to extend the ban to other raw materials in the future to enable the country to process and add value to them.
Addressing a delegation of Chiefs and elders of the Western and Western North Regions at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo asked the Chiefs to be patient as government addresses the developmental deficit in their jurisdictions.
The visit to the Jubilee House apart from being a reciprocal gesture afforded the Chiefs the opportunity to place their needs directly to the President.
The delegation led by President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi called for the rehabilitation of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital which according to the Chiefs is in a sorry state.
They also complained about the poor road network in the Western and Western North Regions among others. Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi condemned the attack on the Upper Dixcove Chief and called for swift investigation into the matter.
He commanded the GNPC foundation for providing scholarship to hundreds of students from the two regions.
President Akufo-Addo assured the chiefs of upcoming massive infrastructural development which will sweep across the country.
On the state of the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the President was worried about the lack of a maintenance culture in the country. He said every Ghanaian needs to develop a culture of maintenance.
He assured them that government is on course in developing the two regions to meet their status as mineral producing regions.
Earlier, the President swore into office Kofi Mensah Demitia as Ambassador to Togo. The position became vacant following the appointment of the incumbent as the Regional Minister of the newly created Oti region
