The erstwhile Bono-Ahafo Region would have been 60 years this year, if it had not been partitioned into Ahafo, Bono East and Bono Regions. But that is not stopping the Chiefs and People of the former Region from celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the former Region.

The celebration will be climaxed with a durbar dubbed “Grand Farewell” in November. Chairman of the Planning Committee for the 60th Anniversary of Bono-Ahafo, Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi made this known to journalists at Sunyani in the Bono Region.

The Bono-Ahafo Region was created in 1959, making this year its 60th Anniversary.

Doubts were raised whether the Anniversary would be celebrated following the partitioning of Bono-Ahafo into Ahafo, Bono East and Bono Regions. But any doubts have been cleared as the Bono Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has constituted a Bono-Ahafo 60th Anniversary Celebration Planning Committee to organise the event.

Speaking at a News Conference in Sunyani, the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Christopher Akumfi Ameyaw said despite the partitioning of Bono-Ahafo into three Regions, the 50 Members of the House of Chiefs believe there is still cause to celebrate the then Bono-Ahafo Region.

Activities lined up for the celebration kick off on September 11 with the climax in November.

They include Symposium and Lectures on how the Regions created from Bono-Ahafo could harness resources to speed up development, a Quiz Competition on Bono-Ahafo and a Grand Farewell Durbar as well as a Dinner and Awards Night.

Prof. Akumfi Ameyaw also said the possibility of a football match featuring traditional giants BA Utd and Tano Bofoakwa is being explored.

He also announced plans to build a Museum to perpetuate the memory of Bono-Ahafo.
