Police arrest two suspected highway robbers

Police in the Savannah Region have arrested two suspects believed to be members of a gang of armed robbers operating on the Fufulso-Sawla-Wa highway.

The suspects have been identified as Yakubu Haruna, 24 and Seidu Haruna 18.

One of the suspects was identified by a victim during an identification parade.

A police report on the arrest, revealed that, on the August 27, a 42 year old driver, Kwabena Baah who was in charge of a Guinness Distribution Kia Rhino Truck, No. AS 4014 reported that, he was robbed of ¢15,000 and a mobile phone by two armed masked men.

According to the report, the police later received a telephone call from Yipala village that some youths of the community had gone to arrest two men loitering close to the robbery scene, suspecting them to be responsible for the robbery.

Police immediately proceeded to the village where the two suspects were handed over to them for investigations.

A soldier’s bag containing a jeans trousers and a pair of black canvas as well as an Aloba Apsonic motorbike No.M – 19 – UW 5632 were retained.
