Residents of Kumasi Metropolis particularly of Amakom, Adum and Asafo are resorting to unhygienic sources of water following a water shortage that has hit the metropolis for the past four days, the situation which is been blamed on cable blast of the main transformer at Barekese Treatment Plant.
While in Amakom, some residents told GBC’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent, Razak Baba that they have been without water for the past three days, other areas have been without water for the past one week.
“It has become very difficult doing the house chores, washing and cleaning. Even the water to bath is a problem and we don’t know what the problem is because we cannot continue to endure this,” one frustrated resident told the reporter.
Another resident said, “the situation is becoming dire for some of us as our day students are skipping school because they cannot get water to bath them. Also, we cannot even go about our daily business because we cannot bath to step out to go about our business. We have to resort to sachet water which is really not helping issues.”
The Ashanti Regional Public Relation officer of Ghana Water Company Sampson Ampah explained that Barekese Treatment Plant has been affected with power supply due to a cable blast of the main transformer at Barekese.
This has consequently, water supply to most areas in the Kumasi metropolis has been interrupted.
He disclosed that a team of PDS engineers are working hard to fix the problem after which supply will be restored immediately.
