Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Regional Correspondent, Joyce Kantam Kolamong was on Tuesday adjudged the best Gender and Child Right Reporter at the maiden edition of the Northern Region GJA awards night in Tamale.
She won with the story-“Ending Child Marriage at Saboba” which was repeatedly aired on Ghana Today, a program on Uniiq FM in Accra.
The event was on the theme: “Promoting Peace in Northern Ghana: the Role of the Media”. It formed part of activities marking the 70th Anniversary celebration of the Association.
The Northern Regional GJA Awards night was used to highlight the need for journalists to do more impactful stories towards social change and development.
Some deserving journalists who won awards on the night include Mohammed Baba Kamil, of TV Africa, best News Reporting and the overall Best Journalist of the year, Diana Ngon, Citinews, best Sensitive Peace Reporter, and Mohammed Fugu of Daily Graphic as best Education Reporter.
Others include Kombat Eric, Daily Guide, best Environment, Sanitation and Hygiene Reporter, Mohammed Hashmin of Joy News won the best Health Reporter.
Yahaya Masahudu of the Finder Newspaper was adjudged ed the best Agric and Rural Reporter while Sayida Maltiti Sadik was named Promising Young Female Journalist.
Three Radio stations were also recognized on the night.
