While some schools intakes have exceeded their quota for admissions, others do not have the required number of students.
An instance can be cited at the Sefwi Wiawso SHS in the Western North Region where there are vacancies to be filled. Headmaster, Evans Kweku Morgan said the School was ready to admit as many as 1,556 fresh students but the Ghana Education Service (GES), gave it a quota of 1,331 of which 1,071 have since September 12 taken their admission letters and prospectus.
He said the School has enough facilities to accommodate all the students and expressed its readiness to receive the freshers.
Speaking to GBC’s correspondent on the challenges that some parents and guardians are going through to seek admission for their children in some parts of the country, the Western North Regional Minister, Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu, said the story is not different in his region.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has called on the public particularly parents to exercise restraint as it works assiduously to address the challenges faced in this year’s computer placement for SHS students.
In a release signed by Communications Director, Vincent Assafuah, it said government is committed to the free SHS programme, and will make sure no child is left behind.
The statement said the vacancies available in schools far exceed the number of qualified candidates and that 90 percent of the issues are mainly to do with change of schools.
