The Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), has begun a three-day national individual boxing championship, to select members into the national amateur team, the Black Bombers.
The programme, would be held at the D.G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium and would attract over 100 amateur boxers across the country.
The President of the GBF, George Lamptey, said amateur boxers would be competing for one spot in each weight category of the 10 weight categories available.
According to Mr. Lamptey, whose Federation was the only bronze medalist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 10 fighters selected would begin camping immediately for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“We hope to get a medal in next Olympics and we must start preparations now,” he said.
Coach Kwasi Ofori Asare, the veteran trainer and AIBA Instructor, would lead a team of referees and judges in the selection.
