The Acting Resident Representative of the UNDP, SIlk Hollander, says climate action by all citizens will help in addressing the impact of climate change.

She highlighted behavioral change, awareness creation, development solutions and promotion of green businesses as some of the actions needed to address the effect of the weather phenomenon.

Madam Hollander, who was addressing an event in Accra ahead of the 10th Anniversary of the Social Good Summit to be held on the 22nd of this month, said none of the development goals can be achieved without addressing the challenges of climate change.

The Social Good Summit began ten years ago as a collaborative effort by the UN Foundation and the UNDP among other partners to open up critical conversations during the UN General Assembly.

The event in Accra was attended by about 90 students from the West Africa Senior High and Wesley Grammar High Schools in Accra, representatives from CSO’s in environment and entrepreneurs in green business.

Madam Hollander said though Africa is impacted heavily by climate change, especially in the agricultural sector, close to half of the population have limited knowledge on climate change.

A research Scientist with the Water Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Dr Barnabas Amisigo said SDG’s13, 14 and 15 which focus on Climàte, water and Land should be highlighted since they form the basis of economic growth.
