The Alumni of the University for Development Studies, (UDS), has renovated selected facilities of the Wa campus, now known as Simon Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development.
Renovated facilities are lecture hall “Three”, The Twin halls, The Auditorium and a research centre at the cost of sixty-five thousand Ghana Cedis, (65,000ghc).
The renovation forms part of the Alumni’s resolve to ensure that students who study at the university do so in confort and in confidence.
It is also in connection with the 25th anniversary of the University which has produced thousands of human resource for Ghana in general and the north in particular.
Handing over the keys of the renovated halls to the out-going Principal of the Wa campus, Professor Amin Alhassan, on the sideline of the university’s annual interdisciplinary conference organized by the Interdisciplinary Research and Consultancy Services, Vice President of the Alumni Professor Terry Ansah said the alumni has renovated the halls and other facilities to ensure that students who study in these halls have peace of mind.
He said the Alumni also extended electricity to the research center to facilitate research work of both students and lecturers.
Professor Ansah said apart from the renovation at the Wa campus the alumni has also renovated a clinic at Nyankpala campus while similar paintings are being done at Navrongo campus.
He noted that a vehicle has been provided for a department of the university as well. “A gate house is being constructed at the Tamale campus”, Professor Ansah added.
He said all the work done is funded from the contributions of members.
He commended the alumni for their continuous support and urged all to do their widow’s might for the development of the University.
The Vice President of the Alumni Professor Ansah hinted that the alumni is considering constructing a security gate for the Wa campus as well to enhance security.
“We are also considering installing CCTV cameras in the campuses as a way of fighting crime in future”, Professor Ansah hinted.
The out-going Principal of the campus Professor Amin Alhassan expressed gratitude to the Alumni for its efforts in ensuring that the structures look attractive to students particularly the new ones.
He said the renovation will contribute in creating conducive atmosphere for studies. He said the renovation will create good impressions in the minds of students particularly those reporting to the university for the first time.
The university he said sees the alumni as a key strategic stakeholder. Management will therefore continue to collaborate with the alumni to work in the interest of the students and the university at a whole.
He however called on the alumni to do well to provide a security post it is considering for the Wa campus to enhance security.
