The National Population Council insists that the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) policy is to empower children to make the right choices and not to expose them to sex.
According to Executive Director of the Council, Dr. Leticia Appiah, it will provide an opportunity for children to develop and understand their values, skills, attitudes and insights about sexuality.
Beginning next year, pupils in all public schools, including 4-year-olds will be taking the course which covers a range of issues on physical, biological, emotional and social aspects of sexuality.
The programme has however come under intense criticism receiving bashing from a section of the public including church leaders with many describing it as a deliberate attempt to introduce homosexuality to Ghana.
Speaking on news and current affairs programme, ‘Behind the News’ on Uniiq FM, however, Dr. Appiah said the policy lays the foundation for critical thinking as well as develop positive attitude and orientation.
Dr. Leticia Appiah denied allegations that the CSE is an imposition on the country. She called for more advocacy to educate the public on the policy.
