The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in collaboration with Barbecue Masters, has distributed 1500 boiled eggs to the pupils of Independence Avenue Cluster of schools as part of activities to mark World Eggs Day in Accra.
The Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, (AMA), Emmanuel Clottey who delivered a speech on behalf of AMA, CEO, said the Assembly was committed to promoting a healthy life hence the distribution of eggs to the pupils of the school.
He said eggs were essential in helping children grow up healthy, strong and smart. Adding that “a large hard- boiled egg contains Seventy-eight (78), calories and several important nutrients, including: lutein and zeaxanthin, which are antioxidants that support healthy eyesight,” Mr. Clottey urged all parents to give their children at least one egg daily to improve a healthy living and boost the nutritional value of the food that their children ate.
“We call on parents to give their kids at least an egg a day. One egg a day is enough for the child’s healthy lifestyle,” he urged.
The Chief Executive of Barbecue Masters, David Nana Edjah called on government to add an egg daily to the School Feeding Program.
This he said will go a long way to promote healthy lives amongst students.
“An egg a day is a whole meal so we plead on government to at least add an egg daily to the school feeding program to help our children grow healthy,” he urged.
He said the collaboration between his outfit and the AMA with support from Essar Agro, Aglow Farms, Destler Farms and USDA Amplifies in promoting healthy lives in the Metropolis has come to stay, announcing “Barbecue Fair”, an event in collaboration with AMA prior to the Yuletide.
World Egg Day is celebrated on the second Friday in October.
It was founded by the International Egg Commission (IEC) at a conference held in Vienna in 1996.
The idea behind the day was raising awareness across the world, of the important place eggs have in human nutrition.
