Major roads in South Africa’s coastal city of Cape Town have been closed following protests by residents against poverty and crime.
The Western Cape Police in a statement said eight people were arrested for public violence following run-ins with police that resulted in the disruption of traffic.
One of the protest organisers, Gatto Wanza, blamed the police for instigating clashes with protesters.
Some of the residents of Bonteheuwel stated insecurity in the area as the major reason behind their protest.
