As part of efforts to raise awareness and document key success stories based on the programmes envisaged in ECOWAS Vision 2050, the Directorate of Strategic Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, in collaboration with the Directorate of Communication, brought together the communication focal points of ECOWAS Directorates, Agencies, and Institutions at a two day meeting held in Abuja-Nigeria.

The purpose of this preparatory meeting was to discuss and agree on the main targets, methodology, and activities to be carried out, as well as the messages and communications tools to be developed as part of this visibility campaign in the Member States.

The vision statement of the ECOWAS Vision 2050 states: “A fully integrated Community of peoples, living in a peaceful and prosperous region, with strong institutions and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, striving for inclusive and sustainable development.”

Analysts believe the ECOWAS Vision 2050 is needed to provide the Region, for the coming years, with a new and medium-term strategic plan that takes into account the new development dynamics of the moment.

The Vision 2050 “ECOWAS of the Peoples: Peace and Prosperity for All” is based on five pillars with related objectives and orientations: peace, security and stability; governance and rule of law; economic integration; transformation; inclusive and sustainable development; as well as social inclusion.
