The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Honourable Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has stepped up her campaign for the Commonwealth Secretary-General position by visiting the Malawian President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, at the Kamuzu Banda Presidential Palace in the Malawian capital, Lilongwe.
Madam Ayorkor Botchwey recounted the strong ties between Accra and Lilongwe, which started in the 50s, which saw the first President of Malawi, Dr Kamuzu Banda, practicing medicine in Ghana before he returned home in 1958 to lead his country to independence.
The Ghanaian candidate for the Commonwealth Secretary-General position shared her vision with the Malawian President, which is centred on bolstering trade and investment among the 56 member states of the Commonwealth, climate change, education, innovation and skills, youth start-ups, mobile labour market, and making the Commonwealth more visible and responsive to the needs of the people.
