The Chairman of the Council of Bureaux of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, Mr. Henry Bukari, has advised practitioners and handlers of motor insurance claims to speed up processes of paying compensation to victims under the ECOWAS Brown Card scheme.
He also advised practitioners to empathise with victims from other countries in the ECOWAS subregion.
Mr. Bukari said this at the first zonal meeting of the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme in Conakry, Guinea. The ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme is an extension of the “motor insurance cover” to promote the free movement of people and goods in the ECOWAS region through rapid and fair compensation for cross-border claims.
Participants from ECOWAS exchanged ideas, shared good practices, and explored new opportunities for cooperation.
The meeting had the goal of overcoming obstacles to free movement in order to promote sustainable development within West African states.
The Chairman of the ECOWAS Brown Card Council of Bureaux, Mr. Henry Bukari, said there’s the need to revise the technical texts relating to the ECOWAS Brown Card Insurance Scheme, particularly the settlement of cross-border claims, which is largely influenced by the CIMA Code.
The Second Vice-Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea, Mrs. Souadou Baldé, shared optimistic experiences, relevant recommendations, and useful resolutions that will help to achieve the objectives.
There were extensive discussions about whether or not to include concubinage relationships when compensations are to be paid to accident victims who die as a result of cross-border accidents.
