The Daily Graphic highlights the need to promote food security as the global community marks World Sustainable Gastronomy Day amid COVID-19. It says that if a day is set aside to raise awareness on food production and consumption, the time is now. The paper advises the public not to waste food as this could defeat efforts at providing enough food for all. The Graphic reminds those in the food production chain and consumers to maintain personal safe hygiene and clean healthy surroundings to promote good public health.

The Ghanaian Times expresses concern about the ever increasing degradation of the environment. In its editorial to commemorate World Day to Combat Drought and Desertification, the paper says lives of half of the world’s population depend on land for the provision of food, animal feed as well as fiber for clothing. It says about 35 percent of Ghana’s land is also under threat of desertification due to negative activities such as deforestation, use of agrochemicals and overgrazing adding that the negative impact of such activities, calls for concerted effort to protect land to avert possible food insecurities.
