The Daily Graphic appreciates fathers and all father figures for their continuous support to families and the nation. The paper says the father’s role in families and society at large cannot be underestimated especially in bringing up and nurturing children. Therefore it is worth celebrating Fathers Day and recognizing them, while drawing attention to the need for others to be responsible. The Graphicencourages children or relations who have issues with their fathers or father figures to use the occasion to resolve those differences and put all that behind them and start afresh.
The Ghanaian Timesexpresses the need to strictly enforce the wearing of face masks to combat COVID-19. The paper says two things happened at the weekend that must not be allowed to pass without comment. The first is the country’s COVID-19 recovery rate which moved from 4,548 to 1074 and was attributed to the amendment to the Ghana Health Service’s national discharge policy. This is in conformity with WHO’s guideline which allows for asymptomatic patients who are admitted to isolation to go home 14 days after treatment without a second test. The second event that caught the paper’s attention relative to the fight against COVID-19 was the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries held across the country. It was observed that during the primaries, some delegates were without nose masks and did not adhere to the social distancing protocol. This was clearly against the directive that wearing of nose mask is compulsory and offenders would be liable to a fine or 10 years imprisonment. It is therefore strange that delegates did not adhere to health protocols. The paper’s concern is that the safety protocols were not enforced by the security apparatus.
