Nigeria’s Veteran comic actor Amaechi Muonagor has passed away at the age of 62.
Amaechi, renowned for his iconic comedic performances, succumbed to kidney failure on Sunday evening, March 24, 2024, while undergoing dialysis, according to reports.
His death comes shortly after he made a public appeal for financial assistance for a kidney transplant in India through a viral video on social media.
In the video, Amaechi was seen lying on a bed, accompanied by his colleague actor Kingsley Orji, as he made a heartfelt plea for help.
Orji disclosed that Muonagor had recently discharged himself from the teaching hospital due to financial constraints, despite his critical need for medical attention.
The illness had severely affected his speech, emphasizing the urgent need for a kidney transplant surgery.
“It’s been a tough journey. Amaechi has been battling this condition for months, and it’s gotten worse. He urgently requires a kidney transplant in India,” expressed a concerned Orji.
Although Muonagor’s departure from the ICU at Nnewi Teaching Hospital was due to financial limitations, his condition remained critical. Immediate assistance was required as his speech impairment posed significant challenges.
Amaechi Muonagor’s passing adds to the list of Nollywood veterans who have left the industry. Notably, the industry mourned the loss of John “Mr Ibu” Okafor on March 2, who endured amputation due to a prolonged illness.
