Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, the Ghanaian lady set to break the Guinness World Record for longest singing marathon, has submitted the list of songs she will be performing to the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

This follows the suggestion that the organisation could stop Afua’s sing-a-thon competition if she doesn’t do the right thing.

The Chairman of GHAMRO, Rex Omar, explained in an interview on GTV’s breakfast show that Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, could be stopped if a compiled list of songs she plans to perform during the event were not presented to GHAMRO in order to prevent future occurrences.

His comment sparked outrage on social media, drawing mixed reactions from netizens. Some people called him unprintable names for his harmless suggestion, while others understood what he meant.

Rex mentioned that the advice aligns with ensuring that artistes and copyright holders are duly recognised and compensated for the use of their intellectual property. He emphasised the importance of sending this list to the royalties collection agency.

Asantewaa’s mission is all about taking Ghanaian music to the world stage. She is on a mission to showcase the incredible diversity of genres like gospel, highlife, and hiplife.

“This is unacceptable”

Meanwhile, Afua Asantewaa has called out Rex Omar for posting confidential documents about her sing-a-thon.

Commending Afua and her team for doing the right thing, Rex Omar posted the list of songs on Facebook and wished them success.

But Afua was not happy and called out Rex Omar for posting the document on social media.

“This is supposed to be a confidential document for your outfit so why make it public. Sir. this is no acceptable,” she said in reply to the post.

The post has since been deleted, and Rex Omar has apologised, explaining that he didn’t know it was a confidential document.

“When I got to GHAMRO office, they had brought the list. And because of the controversy, i don’t know anything about the project as to whether the list of songs should be confidential. i didn’t know. It was not on the list that they brought us.”
