Ghanaian Journalist and Entrepreneur, Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, who is set to embark on an attempt to break a Guinness world record for the longest singing marathon by an individual, has announced that one of GBC’s channels, LifeStyleTv has been dedicated exclusively to her performance at the marathon.

Gbcghanaonline.com will also bring you daily updates on the happenings at the venue.

Asantewaa’s mission is all about taking Ghanaian music to the world stage. She is on a mission to showcase the incredible diversity of genres like gospel, highlife, and hiplife.

To make her mark, she is aiming to sing over 3,200 unique Ghanaian songs, following the strict rules set by Guinness World Records. Each song must be performed within a two-minute timeframe, adding an extra layer of challenge and intensity to her journey.

The audience can be part of Asantewaa’s performance by only enjoying her singing and not joining in with their own voices. It adds a unique twist to the experience, making it all the more captivating. She will be performing non-stop from December 24 to 27 at the Akwaaba Village in Accra, Ghana, and she aims to sing for 117 hours or more.

Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 1999 as the Guinness Book of Records and in previous United States editions as The Guinness Book of World Records, is a British reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world. In June 2023, Nigerian chef Hilda Baci was declared the Guinness World Record holder for the longest cooking marathon. The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began on Thursday, May 11, and continued through Monday, May 15, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.

Afua Asantewaa was inspired by this and decided to use the opportunity to project Ghanaian music through a singing marathon, hoping to break the record. The current record holder, Sunil Waghmare, accomplished the feat in Nagpur, India, from March 3 to 7, 2012, by singing a diverse selection of popular Indian songs with no repetition within four hours.
