US-based Ghanaian singer Amaarae proudly represented Ghana on the global stage with her electrifying performance at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Her set took place on April 13, 2025, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
Coachella, one of the most prominent music and arts festivals in the United States, is held annually in California. Due to its immense popularity, the event has been split into two weekends since 2012. This year’s first installment ran from April 11 to 13, with the second leg scheduled for April 18 to 20, 2025.
Amaarae, born Ama Serwah Genfi, made history by becoming the first Ghanaian artist to deliver a solo performance at the festival. Beyond performing her own hits, she shined a spotlight on Ghanaian music by incorporating songs from notable artists such as Eazzy, Joey B, La Même Gang, and the Asakaa Boys.

Her performance was not just musically captivating but also a proud celebration of her heritage. At one point, she encouraged the crowd to wave their Ghana flags and declared her deep love for her homeland, stating: “A lotta the music you just heard is from my home country, Ghana. I love my country so much.”
“This Ghanaian song is the biggest Ghanaian song in the history of all Ghanaian songs to ever exist.”

A memorable moment during her set was when she boldly cut off her long hair live on stage, a symbolic gesture that added emotional weight to her show.
Amaarae also took the opportunity to share exciting news with fans: her upcoming album titled Black Star is set for release this summer.
The Ghanaian-American singer-songwriter rose to prominence with her 2017 EP Passionfruit Summers. Her body of work includes The Angel You Don’t Know (2020) and Fountain Baby (2023). In 2023, she won the Record of the Year award at the Ghana Music Awards for her global hit Sad Girls Luv Money, featuring Moliy, further cementing her reputation in both the local and international music scenes.
