The Awoamefia of Anlo State, Torgbi Sri III has called on the government to execute one of its promises to the citizens of Anloland and Volta Region at large by constructing a functional port with its ancillary industrial enclave before December 31, 2020.
Drawing the president’s attention to the Keta Habour project when addressing a packed crowd for the grand durbar of this year’s Hogbetsotso festival at Hogbe Park in Anloga, Torgbi Sri said the chiefs and the people of Anlo are grateful for the initiative but believe that the “work will progress beyond the sword cutting ceremony” as witnessed few months ago.
According to him:, “This project is dear to the heart of Anlo state because it will not only provide jobs for the large army of our unemployed youth but also restore Keta to its glorious past. The Anlo state will be more than happy to see a functional port with its ancillary industrial enclave”.
“The livelihood of our people depends largely on vegetable farming, fishing and trading activities. However, market, seed capital and technical guidance for our people to expand these activities have been the missing link in their quest to eliminate poverty. It is my considered prayer Mr. President, that your flagship industrial policy initiative will find a birthing port in Anloland. This will open up our area for the needed market and investment in our farmers”.
The Awomefia also used the occasion to remind the President, the need for safe drinking water to various communities, by stressing the fact that some “students and pupils have to spend countless hours searching for water, thus, wasting precious contact hours”.
He stated that the time spent in searching for water affects indiscipline at school, loss of contact hours and the overall academic performance of each student but Torgbi however, commended the government for initiating the Anyako water project.
Nevertheless, we appeal to government to complete this project as soon as possible. We know every $1 invested in water and sanitation, on the average, $5 is returned by keeping people healthy, productive and keeping students in school, he acknowledged.
