Government to redevelop Arts Centre under Marine Drive Project

Plans are underway to move Artisans the Centre for National Culture, within Accra Business District also known as “ARTS CENTRE to be relocated to a site near Dodowa in the Shai Osudoku Municipal Assembly to pave ways for the redevelopment of the centre under the Accra Marine Drive Project.

As a result of the strategic nature of the Marine Drive Project, the offices and shops within the Marine Drive Enclave being used by the artisans (producers) of arts and culture souvenirs and vendors of arts works have been earmarked to be relocated.

The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dr. Ibrahim Awal was in Parliament to answer a question by MP for Klottey Korley, Dr. Zanetor Agyemang Rawlings on ‘what specific plans the Ministry has for the Arts and Culture Centre in Accra, said, “It has been proposed that a performance hall be constructed within the Marine Drive project to accommodate various performing Artistes by the time enclave is fully developed” and “the offices of the Centre for National Culture, Greater Accra Region have been earmarked to be relocated to the Ghana House near the Post Office Quarters, Accra”.

The Performing Arts Unit of the Centre for National Culture are also earmarked to be relocated to the National Theatre of Ghana, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Mohammed Awal said “a provision has been made for the construction of 728 stores at the Community Education Youth and Development (CEYD) department, of the National Commission on Culture at Kawukodi in the Awayaso East Municipality in the Greater Accra Region to provide stores for retailers of Arts and Culture products”.
