The Creative Director of Nineteen57 Events, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), has announced the transformation of the Black Star Legacy Awards into an independent event.
Previously, the award scheme was part of Rhythms on the Runway, one of Ghana’s most prestigious fashion and music events.
Since its inception in 2019, the awards have gained prominence as a platform for recognizing excellence in creative arts, culture, and beyond.
Over the years, the Black Star Legacy Awards have honoured distinguished individuals and organizations contributing to the growth and success of Ghanaian society, the African continent, and the African diaspora.
Esteemed past recipients include Ghanaian music icon Obrafour, renowned fashion designer Ricci Osei, Jamaican politician Hon. Lisa Hanna, hip-hop pioneer Reggie Rockstone, and celebrated actor Richard Mofe Damijo.

Others such as Queen Asabea Cropper, Nene Agyemang, Agya Koo Nimo, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, reggae band Morgan Heritage, and global music star Stonebwoy have also been recognized for their impact.
“With this transition, we are creating a broader platform to celebrate not only achievements in the creative arts but also excellence in various fields including business, leadership, innovation, science, and humanitarian efforts,” said the Founder of Nineteen57 Events.
“The Black Star Legacy Awards have always been about honouring individuals and organizations that embody the spirit of achievement and innovation, and this new phase will allow us to do so on a grander scale.”
With its new status as an independent event, the Black Star Legacy Awards will expand its scope beyond the creative arts. This transition aligns with the awards’ broader mission of celebrating excellence, achievement, and innovation within Ghana and across the global Pan-African community.
While specific event details, including award categories and selection criteria, are still being finalized, organizers promise an unforgettable experience.
“We are committed to ensuring that the Black Star Legacy Awards remain a prestigious and highly anticipated event that recognizes and rewards the very best of Ghana, Africa, and the diaspora,” the statement added.
