Chiefs and people of Builsa celebrate Feok Festival

The Chiefs and people of Builsa Traditional Area in the Upper East Region have celebrated their annual Feok Festival with a call on the people to see the festival as a platform to help them to harness the available human and material resources to support the Builsa North and South District assemblies.

Sons and daughters from the area were reminded of the developmental challenges confronting the area in terms of health, education, agriculture and sanitation among others.

Celebration of the Feok festival by the Chief and people of Builsa in the Builsa Traditional Area of the Upper East Region, started a week ago with various activities to thank the gods for a fruitful year.

The week-long celebration, which was observed across the area with massive participation, was occasioned with activities such as pacification of the gods with pouring of libations, exhibition of local crafts and foods, traditional war dancing, archery and other educative programs.

The Feok festival is an important annual festival by the people of Sandema and its environs, to commemorate the victory of the indigenous over slave raiders led by Babatu in the 18th century, and to thank God for bumper harvest.

Speaking at the climax in Sandema, the Paramount Chief of the Builsa Traditional Area, Naab Azaksuk Azantilow, commended government for the numerous social policy interventions, development projects and pledged the support of the traditional area for their success.

The Paramount Chief urged his people to make conscious effort to eradicate negative behaviors like Bush burning, illegal felling of trees, teenage pregnancies, in order to achieve sustainable development as a district.

The MP for the area, James Agalga, called on government to hasten efforts in the construction of the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Sandema road to further open up the area for development. He also appealed for the extension of the rural electrification project to all communities to boost business activities.

Speaking on the theme “Celebrating and Consolidating the rich Culture in the midst of COVID-19”, the Builsa North District Chief Executive, David Amoabil Afoko, called on all to inculcate selflessness to sustain development for generations unborn.

He said President Akufo-Addo led administration will continue to pursue innovative and result-oriented programmes to bring improvement to every sector of the district.

The DCE for Talensi, Dr. Christopher Boatbil, called on the people in the area to rally behind government to support them with the needed development.

The festival brought together sons and daughters from the Builsa traditional in the country and diaspora.
