The Ghana Association of Writers, GAW, has paid glowing tribute to Legendary Highlife musician, Nana Kwame Ampadu I, few days after his passing.

The musician died in the early hours of Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

A statement signed by the President of GAW, Francis Gbormittah, described Nana Ampadu as one of Ghana’s Highlife trailblazers and a cultural icon whose death ‘has plunged the country’s music and cultural community into a state of deep grief.”

The Association expressed its deepest condolences to the family.

“On behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the entire membership of the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW), we express our deepest condolences to the family of Nana Kwame Ampadu I, and the music and cultural community for the loss of an affable and well respected personality,” the statement on Friday, October 1, 2021, said.

Recalling the support the Musician gave the Association, the Statement said, “In 2012, he was invited to the GAW Book Festival (GAWBOFEST), held at the National Theatre of Ghana in September in his capacity as Highlife music legate, storyteller, celebrated lyricist, and cultural activist. He, actually, played a major role in publicizing the event on radio and television. At the event, Nana Ampadu displayed his resilience in storytelling by effectively engaging spellbound pupils, students, and adults for over two hours. His stories were masterpieces that revealed insights into his skillful use of techniques and styles. GAW also remembers Nana Ampadu as a consummate gentleman and a peaceful, thoughtful, humble, and courteous person.”
The Association assured the family of its readiness to collaborate and complete Nana Ampadu’s poetry project.
