Ghana’s first-ever Creative Arts Senior High School is expected to formally open for admissions and academic work in February 2022. To achieve this target, Phase 1 of the school is to be completed by December 2021, after which President Akufo-Addo is expected to officially inaugurate it for full operations.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum made the point when he toured the project site at Kwadaso, near Ashanti to learn at first hand, the progress of work.
GBC’s Nicholas Osei-Wusu reports that President Akufo-Addo broke the grounds last year for construction to start on the first ever Creative Arts Senior High School. The school is being built on a 12-acre land previously occupied by St. Peters’ Preparatory School at Kwadaso in the newly created Kwadaso Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
The first phase of the boarding Creative Arts Senior High School comprises a 750-bed Girls’ Dormitory and 500-bed Boys’ Dormitory, some staff residential accommodation, classrooms and ancillary facilities.
The school is also being classified under the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM model schools and would be provided with 12 laboratories for the study of science and related subjects.
The mission of the school will however be to train and develop talents and the creative abilities of students for the movie and arts industry.
The project is being executed by Goldman, a Ghanaian construction firm. Speaking to journalists after his familiarization tour of the project, the Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum disclosed that experts have begun the process of developing the curricula for teaching and learning ahead of its opening for academic work.
“The Creative Arts Center has the potential to become a talent recruiting Centre in Africa. Africa has talents and gifted people, that the Centre is ready to horn skills to become the best in the world,” Dr. Adutwum stated.
The MP for Kwadaso, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, was happy that the school is being built in his constituency and noted that when it eventually opens, it will not only open up Kwadaso to the outside world but also help in job creation in the area.
“There are untapped talents within the country and most especially, Kwadaso, therefore the center will help in that regard’’. The Creative Arts Industry also has the potential according to the Kwadaso MP “to promote the socio-economic development of the nation’’.
