Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Kafui Danku-Pitcher has been appointed as the new Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA) Ghana.
Kafui will be taking over from her colleague actress Juliet Asante as the head of the NFA. This announcement comes just a day after actor James Gardiner was appointed as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Authority on Thursday, February 27.
Kafui Danku-Pitcher is an accomplished filmmaker, author, and entrepreneur with extensive experience in the creative arts, tourism, and economic development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English and Classics from the University of Cape Coast and is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) at the University of Ghana.
Her expertise spans leadership and governance, creative industry development, strategic communication, digital innovation, and fostering partnerships. She is passionate about enhancing the creative sector, preserving cultural heritage, and driving economic growth through impactful policies and initiatives.
Since 2008, Kafui Danku-Pitcher has been actively involved in the film industry as an actress and filmmaker. In 2013, she became an executive producer at ABC Pictures Limited. Additionally, she has worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as a Repatriation Assistant, where she contributed to the implementation of humanitarian policies, refugee interviews, socio-economic assessments, and strategic data analysis. Her work with the UN reflects her strong communication, negotiation, and cross-cultural understanding skills.
As a social activist and Goodwill Ambassador, she has led initiatives such as Silence Is Not Golden, advocating for women to speak out against injustice. She has also campaigned against child marriage and provided support for children suffering from Kwashiorkor.
Her contributions to social development have earned her recognition from the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) for her efforts in advancing women’s roles in politics, peacebuilding, and economic institutions.
Kafui Danku-Pitcher has received numerous accolades, including Tourism Personality of the Year 2024 and Most Outstanding Women Entrepreneur’s Rising. She is also the founder of the Dream Achievers Project, which supports startup businesses, reinforcing her commitment to economic empowerment.
She has participated in several prestigious global summits and conferences, including the UN Summit of the Future 2024 and the Women Empowerment Summit.
In her new role as Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, she aims to create an enabling environment for the creative arts industry to thrive, empower industry players, and enhance the sector’s contribution to Ghana’s GDP.
