President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to preserve and promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, particularly in the Ashanti Region, renowned for its vibrant filmmaking industry, Kumawood.
Speaking at a service with the clergy in Ashanti Region at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), President Mahama emphasised the importance of investing in tourism initiatives, filmmaking, and the creative arts to celebrate Ghana’s history, create jobs, and boost the local economy.
“We must preserve and promote our heritage by investing in tourism initiatives, filmmaking, and the creative arts, developing cultural centres, museums, and historical sites. This will not only celebrate our history but also create jobs and boost the local economy,” President Mahama stated on Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The President’s commitment to supporting Kumawood is expected to revitalise the industry, which has been a significant contributor to Ghana’s cultural identity and economic growth. By investing in the creative arts, President Mahama aims to provide opportunities for Ghanaian filmmakers, actors, and artists to showcase their talents and contribute to the country’s cultural development.
In addition to his plans for Kumawood, President Mahama also outlined his vision for improving infrastructure development in Kumasi and Ashanti, investing in better roads, bridges, and public transportation systems to drive economic growth and create opportunities for businesses, farmers, and traders.
President Mahama’s address was well-received by the clergy and attendees, who welcomed his commitment to promoting Ghana’s cultural heritage and supporting the growth of Kumawood.
