CEO of Bello Couture Gh, Bernnett Brako Asiamah resigned from his medical profession to become a fashion designer in 2015.
”And this is by far the best decision ever,” he said.
“ I’ve always been passionate about fashion, and henceforth anytime I dress, and go to church, I get good compliments”.
Mr. Asiamah said he finally made the decision to venture into fashion, when his parents moved to the Northern part of Ghana due to financial difficulties.
“Whiles I was working at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, I would send 80% of my earnings to my parents in the North. Then, I thought it wise to follow my passion. That was when I started ‘Bello Couture”.
”Now I realized that I couldn’t have blended both jobs because it was very demanding. Then I took the biggest risk to resign,” he said.
CEO of Bello Couture Gh said he has been running the fashion business for six years now.
Bernnett Brako Asiamah made an appearance on the GTV Breakfast Show.
The Bello Couture Boss disclosed that the first designed apparel was not sewed by a tailor.
”I draft the designs and give them to a tailor named Thomas to sew the clothes”, he said.
Bello Couture Gh started by making male clothes, however, along the line, Mr. Asiamah said he released Unisex Collections including bomber jackets, hoodies and luxury Jabias.
The Award-winning designer stated that to be an entrepreneur, one should be passion-driven.
“Truth is when you are not passionate about whatever you want to leave your Certificate for, trust me it gets very difficult at times and so if you’re not passionate you might go back to your salary job”.
He also said the fashion business is lucrative and everything he has achieved is solely from fashion.
Mr. Asiamah disclosed that when he resigned to become a fashion designer, his father was displeased because he(father) wanted him to become a Medical Practitioner.
Bello was asked why Ghanaian brands were so expensive, and he responded saying that Ghanaians have this perception that so far as it was a Ghanaian brand, it must be cheap, so everyone could afford it.
He added that most of the fabrics he used are not available in Ghana, and because he wants unique pieces, he has to import fabrics every three months, which makes his designs expensive.
Bello urged designers to push themselves to the top.
“The government won’t help you to become an international brand. You have to find your way up there,” he stressed.
He said 80% of his sales come from social media. Therefore, people should take advantage of it and learn because it is the biggest marketing platform now.
Bernnett Brako Asiamah is an award-winning fashion designer, promoting ”Afro Urban Fashion’’.
He is pushing for Ghana to remain prominent on the global fashion map. He is the creator of bomber jackets and came into the limelight when he got an opportunity to showcase his designs in the Netherlands.
