Legendary Highlife Musician Nana Kwame Ampadu has passed on. The sad event occurred this morning, September 28, 2021, following a period of illness.
Acting President of MUSIGAH Bessa Simons confirmed this to GBC News. He said MUSIGA is liaising with the family for a smooth process leading to the burial and asked the public to allow the family some privacy during the period.
Mr. Simmons described the Singer, Guitarist and Composer as “The biggest legend in Ghana’s music industry whose demise would greatly affect the Highlife genre.” May he RIP
Nana Ampadu, who was the leader of the African Brothers Band, formed in 1963, was a prolific songwriter who wrote thought-provoking songs many of which have endured till day.
Some of his popular songs include Obra (which became the theme song for one of the Akan Drama shows aired on GTV on Sundays), Getty, Oman Bo Adwo, Ebi Te Yie, Kofi Nkrabea, Yaw Berko and Obi Benya Wo.
