Famous Kumawood actor, Lil Win, has taken an unexpected step into politics by declaring his candidacy for the parliamentary seat in the Afigya Kwabre South constituency.

Known in the entertainment industry as Kwadwo Nkansah, he intends to run as an independent candidate in the Ashanti Region.

Lil Win’s decision to enter politics was prompted by the encouragement and endorsement he received from local chiefs and elders within the constituency.

These influential figures strongly urged him to pursue the parliamentary seat, which led him to consider the opportunity.

In an interview with Accra-based Okay FM, Lil Win shared the timeline of events: “Last year in October, a group of elders approached me about the possibility of me running for MP as an independent candidate. They were committed to ensuring my victory in the election.”

The actor revealed that the chiefs’ interest grew after he released his recent movie, ‘Mr. President.’

After watching the film, the chiefs and leaders visited Lil Win to express their unwavering support for his candidacy. They emphasized that his family, including his mother and uncle, were also in favour of his decision to enter politics.

Initially uncertain about venturing into politics, Lil Win admitted that the persistent encouragement from the chiefs and local leaders eventually convinced him to take the leap.

“At first, I wasn’t interested, but they continued to encourage me to run as an independent candidate so that I wouldn’t alienate my fans, whether they support NPP, NDC, or CPP,” Lil Win recounted.

He shared that they assured him of support in improving his English language skills to effectively communicate his ideas.

Regarding his plans for the constituency, Lil Win emphasized his dedication to addressing the challenges that local youth, especially those struggling with substance abuse, face.

His priority is to tackle the issue of unemployment among the young population by creating job opportunities.

“In our region, many youths are facing challenges related to drugs and alcohol. So, if I get elected, I’ll focus on creating jobs because the lack of employment opportunities is pushing them towards negative behaviors,” he affirmed.
