The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has launched a project called ‘Let’s Play Ghana Music’ aimed at rekindling people’s interest in Ghanaian music.
As part of this initiative, a concert will be held at the Gold Coast Restaurant on March 30, 2024, to promote highlife music.
This effort aligns with the goal of showcasing Ghana’s rich culture and heritage during the Ghana Month celebrations.
During an appearance on the GTV Breakfast Show on March 11, 2024, the president of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons, emphasised the significance of using the Heritage Month of March to encourage the consumption and appreciation of Ghanaian music.
He highlighted the importance of listening to Ghanaian music, downloading local songs, and providing platforms for young artists to showcase their talent.
Simmons also discussed MUSIGA’s recent efforts to support musicians, including organising free health screenings and hosting seminars on music and tourism, as well as music business and investment opportunities.
He stressed the importance of prioritising Ghanaian music on all media platforms, urging Ghanaians to embrace their cultural heritage through music consumption.
According to Simmons, promoting local music fosters a sense of national pride and identity among citizens.
