In the vibrant Ghanaian music scene, the rivalry between two prominent artistes, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, shows no signs of abating. This time, the clash isn’t about who reigns supreme in the music game but rather revolves around conflicting event schedules at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Shatta Wale, in a Facebook Live video on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, expressed his disappointment with Stonebwoy for scheduling his concert on December 22, 2023—a date that directly competes with Shatta Wale’s “Freedom Wave Festival” at the same venue.
Adding fuel to the fire, Shatta Wale alleged that external influences had swayed the stadium authorities to grant Stonebwoy the date for his “Bhim Concert” this year, raising questions about fairness and transparency.
Earlier, Shatta Wale and Medikal had excitedly announced the “Freedom Wave Festival,” a five-day extravaganza set to run from December 20th to 25th, all at the Accra Sports Stadium. However, Stonebwoy subsequently unveiled his annual year-end concert, locked in for December 22nd at the very same venue.
In response to Shatta Wale’s claims of unfair treatment, the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi, provided insight into the matter. He revealed, “You told my team that to do a show at the stadium, one needs three days to set up. So if you are doing your show on the 25th, you need three days ahead to set up—namely, the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th. That is what you told my team.”
“Why encroach upon our scheduled time?” Shatta Wale questioned. “Stonebwoy could have chosen any other day in December, perhaps December 10th or another available date. Why disrupt our plans? The Professor assured us they would review the situation,” he emphasized.
As the clash of concert dates unfolds, it seems that the rivalry between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy is as hot as ever, with the Accra Sports Stadium caught in the middle of this musical showdown.
