By Seli Baisie

Ghanaian Afro-dancehall sensation Stonebwoy stole the show at this year’s 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, by taking home seven awards, including the prestigious Artiste of the Year.

Stonebwoy, known for his hit song “Manodzi,” featuring Angelique Kidjo, also took home awards for Best International Collaboration, Songwriter of the Year, Record of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, and Album/EP of the Year.

This marks Stonebwoy’s second Artiste of the Year win, the first being in 2015.

In his acceptance speech, he urged the organizers to “do the right thing” and award him the 2019 Artiste of the Year, which he believes he rightfully deserves. If granted, this would make him a three-time recipient of the title.

While Stonebwoy’s victories were expected, there was surprise over King Promise’s loss in the top category.

Nevertheless, King Promise did not leave empty-handed, winning Afropop Song of the Year and Afrobeat/Afropop Artiste of the Year.

Other notable winners included King Paluta, Olive The Boy, Kofi Karkari, Queendalyn Yurglee, Kuami Eugene, Sarkodie, Nacee, Amerado, and Black Sherif.

The night was electrified with performances from artists such as Efya, King Paluta, Kuami Eugene, Amerado, and Amakye Dede, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The event was held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, June 1.
