32nd edition of AFCON kicks off today in Egypt

The 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, begins today in Egypt. It is being organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The tournament, which was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon was moved to Egypt due to delays in the delivery of infrastructure, insurgency and the Anglophone Crisis.

On January 8 2019, Egypt was chosen by the CAF Executive Committee as the host nation of the competition.

The 32nd edition of Africa Cup of Nations will see the increase of the number of teams from 16, to 24 countries.

Today’s opening match will be between host nation Egypt and Zimbabwe.

Ghana Camp

Reports from the Ghana camp say the Black Stars players are in top spirits for the game.

Captain Andre Ayew in an interview said they are going all out with positivity, energy and determination to bring the Cup home.

The last time Ghana won the cup was in 1982. Ghana’s Black Stars will clash with Benin in its first match on Tuesday (June 26, 2019).

The Matches will be aired live on GTV, GTV Sports plus, Obonu TV and all the 15 Regional FM stations across the country.
