Health Services Workers Union calls off planned nationwide strike

The Health Services Workers’ Union has called off its planned strike over conditions of service.

The group declared a nationwide industrial action scheduled for tomorrow (December 27) to compel government to address their concerns about salary distortions among others.  However, after a meeting with the National Labour Commission and government, the Union resolved to continue to dialogue with stakeholders’ on the issue.

A statement signed by its General Secretary, Reynolds Tenkorang urged the more than twenty-eight thousand Health workers across the country to remain calm and stay at work.

The Health Services Workers’ Union had earlier given government a two-week ultimatum to address their grievances.

Other concerns of the Union are the selective implementation of the collective agreement and payment of market premium based on their current monthly basic salary under the Single Spine Salary Structure.

The workers consist of mortuary attendants, cleaners, ambulance services, laboratory staff among others.
