A private Legal Practitioner, Kojoga Adawudu, says it is going to be difficult for Ghana to convince the UAE authorities to allow CEO of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, to be extradited to Ghana to face trial.
This is because Ghana and the UAE have no extradition treaty.
The only way out for Ghana to bring Mr. Appiah Mensah home is through bilateral negotiations.
He said the UAE would have to be sure that Ghana will indeed put Mr. Appiah Mensah before the law court to face charges for the crime he has been accused of, before any form of agreement is reached on his extradition.
Mr. Adawudu however believes the UAE authorities would try and punish Mr. Appiah Mensah before extraditing him to Ghana.
On whether or not it is necessary for government to send a delegation to the UAE for the extradition processes, Mr. Adawudu said the delegation is only to support efforts by the Ambassador there in order to facilitate the legal process which is beyond the Embassy.
