The Chairperson of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Josephine Nkrumah has attributed the low turn-out in the by-election Thursday, to the interference of vigilante groups in the country.

She debunked claims that it was due to lack of education.

Speaking to Ibrahim Kwarteng on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, Mrs Nkrumah, said political violence disrupts and compromises the democratic processes of the country.

She however, cautioned political parties, against relying on other forces in election, because it may lead to violence.

She added, that vigilantes must not be allowed any space to operate in Ghana’s democracy.

Meanwhile, a Safety and Security Expert, Adam Bonah says the Electoral Commission failed to ensure the total success of Thursday’s by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, he said the EC could have used its experience in past by-elections, to sensitise the parties involved, to the usefulness of such an important exercise.

This, he said, would have equipped the parties and voters on the need to be decorous during the polls.
