As workers in Ghana join the rest of the world to observe International Day of Solidarity or May Day today, Organized Labour has called on government to outlaw layoffs to safeguard jobs in this COVID–19 period.

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah says it was expected that a six hundred million soft loan scheme for small and medium scale businesses and other reliefs rolled out by government would reduce redundancy. But that has not been the case.

This he said has accounted for the numerous reports of layoffs in Ghana.

Mr Ansah was hopeful that President Akufo-Addo will make some pronouncements on the issue in his address today.
