From next year (2019), ride-hailing companies like Taxify and Uber operating in Ghana will be required to obtain unique identification for their vehicles from Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA).

They will also be expected to pay insurance and other levies that have been exacted on other commercial vehicles as well as renew the road worthiness twice a year.

The DVLA says the move is expected to ensure that vehicles used are in proper shape, ensure safety of passengers and increase revenue of the Authority.

The Chief Executive of the DVLA, Kwesi Agyeman Busia said the DVLA is gradually moving from an old system to a more digitised one.

Mr. Agyeman Busia said this when he interacted with staff of the Authority at Wa in the Upper West Regional Capital.
