The Yilo Krobo Municipal Agriculture Director, David Kofi Dokli has reechoed the voice of farmers on the need for the construction of roads leading to the farming Communities in the Municipality.

Mr. Kofi Dokli during this year’s 38th Municipal Farmers Day Celebration at Nkurakan in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, appealed to the government to come to the aid of farmers in the municipality since farming always experience post-harvest losses due to inaccessibility to market centres as a result of deplorable nature of roads.

Roads leading to farming communities such as Akpamu, Boti, Akorwu-Bana, Klo-Agogo, Akpo and few to mention are in a deplorable state. He called on the government to help the expansion of the market centre such as Klo-Agogo, Nkurakan, among others in the municipality.

The Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Tetteh speaking on the theme “Accelerating Agricultural Development through Value Addition” mentioned that high cost of production inputs, low application of technology among small scale farmers and bad nature of roads are some of the challenges confronting farmers in the Municipality.

The Divisional Chief of Okper in the Yilo Krobo Traditional Council, Nene Agor Anyernorgu noted that lack of good roads for farmers to cart their produce to market centres defeats the purpose of Accelerating Agricultural through Value Addition.

A 49-year old John Kwame Mautsueni from Obawale was adjudged the Municipal Overall Best Farmer.

He took home a wheelbarrow, knapsack sprayer, 32-inch Nasco television, watering can and two cutlasses while the Agriculture Officer of the year received a two-door refrigerator among others.
